Property Description
This is a charming old stone village house, lovingly restored by its Canadian owners and their French architect, who was largely responsible for much of the restoration work in the town of Albi. Although the house is located in the centre of the village, there are two walled gardens, providing outdoor privacy for dining and relaxing. As the house is built into a hill the main floor is at street level with the other levels descending into the garden. The location in the medieval village of Penne is 30 minutes from Montauban, one hour from Toulouse, and one hour and a quarter from Albi. The village itself has a population of about 200 people, with a bakery, grocery store, post office, cafe and an artist's studio. Ruins of the chateau are perched high on rocks above the village, making for a classic hill-top village sky-line. There are four towns within 10 kilometres that feature weekly markets, and there are local tennis courts and river swimming near by.
